When I think Mexico, I think bright colors (and great food but that's for another day). So when painting this beautiful lady, I wanted to play up the richness of the culture and the bright colors that I associate with the country. The background shows the morning sky but I applied the paint with a palette knife to get texture and I mirrored this with the brush strokes on the figure. The warm hues contrast with the coolness of the greens and the blues to make a painting filled with complementary colors.
